What is the difference between a trickle charger and a float charger?

While both provide a low-amp charge, a trickle charger provides a constant current regardless of the battery's state, which can lead to overcharging. A NexBolt float charger uses voltage-sensing circuitry to adjust output, only providing a charge when the battery voltage drops, making it safe for long-term connection.

Can I use a lead-acid float charger for lithium (LiFePO4) batteries?

We do not recommend it. Lithium batteries require a CC/CV (Constant Current/Constant Voltage) profile without a "desulfation" or "equalization" stage found in lead-acid chargers. Our multi-chemistry chargers feature a switchable profile to handle both safely.
